Nathan gently stroked her cheek.
“That day in the church, you were so anxious when the shot was fired; and the bullet missed his heart.
I knew you didn’t want him to die. So I let him go.”
Lucinda was overcome with emotion. Tears streamed freely down her face.
“He hurt you and tried to kill you multiple times. Why did you let him go?”
He wiped her tears away one by one, his gaze tender.
“Because I don’t want you to suffer in guilt and sorrow. I don’t want you to blame yourself for his death.”
“Thank you.”
She leaned forward and hugged him tightly, her heart close to bursting with inexplicable joy.
But Nathan’s arms slackened at her sides. He didn’t hold her.
Lucinda pulled back with a frown, sensing that he was angry for some reason.
“What’s wrong, Nate?”

He shot her a sullen look.
“I heard that you were able to tell all of Kyson’s preferences during the trial… You really know him well, don’t you?”
Nathan couldn’t hide his bitterness about this.
Lucinda flashed a smile and gently touched his cheek.
“Are you feeling jealous?”
“Yes, a little bit,” he admitted.
Pouting, he turned his gaze away, clearly seeking comfort from her.
“You look absolutely cute when you’re jealous!” Lucinda held back a laugh and tiptoed to plant a soft ki*s on his lips. She then cajoled him with a tender voice.
“Honey, I know your likes and dislikes. I’ll remember everything about you from now on, and pay no mind to other men, okay?”
Nathan’s face brightened.
“That’s more like it.”
She nodded, and the two embraced tightly, watching as Kyson’s plane disappear in the sky
